What type of people use internet dating
One in every ten American adults has used an online dating site or a mobile dating app.
We refer to these individuals throughout this report as “online daters,” and we define them in the following way: Taken together, 11% of all American adults have done one or both of these activities and are classified as “online daters.” In terms of demographics, online dating is most common among Americans in their mid-20’s through mid-40’s.

Dating sites and apps were most popular among younger internet users - 30 percent of U. internet users aged 18 to 29 years were currently using dating sites or apps and a further 31 percent had done so previously.
Online dating is no longer seen as a last attempt for the desperate and lonely to find their soul mate.
The stigma is beginning to dissipate as an increasing amount of Americans believe that online dating is now socially acceptable.
Some 22% of 25-34 year olds and 17% of 35-44 year olds are online daters.
Online dating is also relatively popular among the college-educated, as well as among urban and suburban residents.That is statistically similar to the 17% of online daters who said that this had happened to them when we first asked this question in 2005.
